Introduction of the Environment Council

The Environment Council consists of a General Council and an Executive Committee:

The General Council consists of 11 councilors of which 2 are civil servants or officers of public administration.

T he Executive Committee consists of 1 president and 2 members.

The responsibilities of the Environment Council include:

a) To give opinions toward the strategies to protect the environment , nature and ecological balance ;

b) To present to the Chief Executive legislative proposals on protection of the environment, nature and ecological balance;

c) To ensure the coordination among programs, measures and activities promoted by the Macao Special Administrative Region;

d) To setup collaboration agreement on joint activities with similar entities of the Macao Special Administrative Region or other regions, especially in training and promotional activities of environmental protection, nature and ecological balance; e) To propose and organize training and promotional activities, especially relating to environmental education;

e) To propose and organize training and promotional activities, especially relating to environmental education;

f) To handle and solve the complaints and claims, or transfer them to the appropriate departments;

g) To give opinions about the protection of environment, nature and ecological balance on industrial licensing.

h) To introduce measures to go along with the enforcement of environmental laws;

i) To enhance scientific researches in protection of the environment, nature and ecological balance;

In addition, the Environment Council is also responsible to compile and approve the annual report on the State of the Environment of Macao and present it to the Chief Executive.
