OTHER RELEVANT AND OCCASIONAL ACTIVITIES

Apart from the activities on a more or less regular basis, Environment Council has also organized various other activities.

Environment Council cooperated with various entities in the organization of various activities, such as: the participation in a series of activities aiming to avoid the proliferation of dengue mosquito; the participation in a "Health City workgroup"; the collaboration with Social Welfare Institute on games organization and on an exhibition for celebrating the World Children's Day; and the collaboration with Hou Kong Juniors Chamber on the organization of the activity "Environmental Pioneers - Save paper, save the world"; and the collaboration with Taipa Community Centre of the General Union for Macao Residents' Associations on the organization of a training course for volunteers whose topic was "Save our resources and protect our Earth".

NATIONAL AND REGIONAL COOPERATION AND EXCHANGE

Environment Council strengthened along 2004, its contacts with various institutions and similar entities on national and regional ground. Some examples are as follows:

• in April, participated in a delegation led by the Secretary for Transport and Public Works in an official visit to Beijing, that contacts with the State Environmental Protection Administration in China. A protocol on hazardous waste management was signed by Environment Council and the Institute of Environmental Science of South China;
  
  
• participated in the celebrations of World Environment Day 2004 that organized by the Dongguan Environmental Protection Bureau within the "Joint Activities between Two Regions and Five Cities";
• on 17th June, during the "Cooperation Development Week between Sichan and Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR)" that in conjunction with the Sichan Environmental Protection Bureau, the organization had an interchange action among green enterprises.
• participated in the "First Joint Convention of Pan-Pear River Delta on Environmental Protection" from 12th to 14th July;
• participated in the meeting of the "Joint-liaison Group for Cooperation of Environmental Protection between Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and Guandong Province on 10th August in Zhuhai;
• participated in the meeting of the "Joint-liaison Group for Cooperation between Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and Guandong Province" on 30th November in Guangzhou.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND EXCHANGE

Some examples on international ground:

• the visit of the President of the Institute for the Environment of Portugal, in order to participate in the launching ceremony of the Report on the State of the Environment of Macao 2003 as well as to discuss on cooperation areas under protocol signed by both parties;
• the continuity of collaboration with the Institute for Environment of Portugal, mostly as regards the compile of the Report on the State of the Environment of Macao under the cooperation protocol signed by both parties;
• participated in the course "UNEP Regional Training Programme in Environmental Policy Analysis and Law" in August;
• participated in the Conference and the Assembly "Alliance for healthy cities" from 12th to 14th October in Kushing, Malaysia;
• two UNEP representatives' visit - the director of the Regional Delegation for Asia and the Pacific and the coordinator of the Delegation of People's Republic China - participated in the opening ceremony of the "Environmental Week".
