ADMINISTRATION'S INVESTMENT AND DEVELOPMENT EXPENDITURE PLAN (PIDDA) 2004 - OF ENVIRONMENT COUNCIL
The most relevant projects, supported Investment and Development Expenditure (PIDDA), are as follows:
Characterisation of Macao Environmental Noise Network
The project "Characterisation of Macao Environmental Noise Network" was continued. At the end of 2004, the 4th automatic noise monitoring station was installed in Taipa, which monitors noise continuously 24 hours per day, and together with 3 more existing automatic stations in Macao.
Environment Council collected the noise data by mobile monitoring vehicle. Until 2004, Environment Council monitored various noise measurement locations of Macao peninsula (120), Taipa (58) and Coloane (61) was concluded.
Environmental Management Project ISO 14000
This project has arisen from the necessity of promoting the implementation of an Environmental Management System in local companies and institutions. The "Green Hotel" project was concluded in 2003, and consisted of a research on 3, 4 and 5 star hotels, aiming to find out local reality as regards environmental management in this activity sector. After data collection treatment, the "Green Hotel" manual was drawn, at the end of 2004.
Special Projects - Compilation of the Report on the State of the Environment 2004
The Executive committee of Environment Council has the responsibility to compile the Report on the State of the Environment, according to the law n.o 2 /98/M, article 7, item c, that issued on 1st June of 1998. The annual report is mainly analysis the change of Macao's state of the environment at global and sectorial level.
Management and Maintenance of Ecological Zones 1 and 2, in Cotai
The management and maintenance of the Ecological Zones 1 and 2, in Cotai, was initiated in August 2004. The company responsible for their management is going to issue periodic reports on these zones situation.
Study on Hazardous Waste Management in Macao
In order to know the current situation of Macao's hazardous waste and to support the implementation of "Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements on Hazardous Waste and their Disposal", and to know more the plan of handling and management of hazardous waste in the future, Environment council started the research on types, quantity and the distribution of hazardous waste as well as data collection on September 2004.
 Study on Water Pollution
As regards the project "Study on Water Pollution", various equipments were purchased, such as: an Auto-sampler; Rain Gauge; Flow Metre; and other accessories. |
