Press Release In order to improve the air quality Macao Special Administrative Region has reaffirmed in her policy address on the prohibition of imports of two-strokes motorcycles in the past years. This strategy that regulations for prohibition will soon be in place.
Was also announced last year in June during World Environment Day, in other public events as well as in the application of Kyoto Protocol Regarding procedures on establishing the limits of emissions of gas pollutant for imported motorcycles, the Environment Council had asked twice for written opinions from the import sector in February and December in 2005. In 22nd December 2007, she also disclosed written information on the adoption of new criteria on the parameters for emissions of gas pollutants. On 10th January 2008, the Environment Council and Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau held an explanatory session on the regulation that prohibits the import of two-strokes motorcycles, announced that it would be published soon, as well as the new criteria on the parameters for emissions of gas pollutants upon imports. In early February of this year, those departments gathered together with importers aiming at collecting opinions and suggestions. Based on the principle of fairness and justice, and data of imported two strokes motorcycles in 2007, the government adopted some opinions and importers' requirements, introduced some changes to the draft regulation so as to achieve a balance between improvement of air quality, fast elimination of two-strokes motorcycles, social requirements as well as importers' benefits. Hence, no injustice should be considered regarding the Administrative Regulation on the limitation of emissions of gas pollutants for new imported motorcycles. The difference for the motorcycles commercialization timing, the inventory and the vehicles order until the regulation publishing date is based on a decision, which builds on a strategy for fast eliminating two-strokes motorcycles and the benefit for the whole of importers.
