The ceremony of attribution of the Green Hotel Award is organized by the Environment Council, in collaboration with Macao Government Tourism Office, and supported by Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association; Macau Hotel Association; Macau Hotel Employees Association, and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center as well as obtained consultancy services provided by Hong Kong Productivity Council. The ceremony took place at lotus room on the 5^th floor of World Trade Centre Macau on 6^th March 2008.

    The awardees were subjected to three assessment criteria, such as: Green Leadership and Innovation; Green Programme Performance; and Partner Synergy. The assessment process comprised of three phases, which included Desktop Assessment, Field Assessment, Award Confirmation.

    The 2007 Green Hotel Award will be valid until 2010. Holiday Inn Macau, Hotel Beverly Plaza, Mandarin Oriental Macau, Riviera Hotel Macau and The Westin Resort Macau, on category I as well as Emperor Hotel and Metropole Hotel, on category II were awarded in recognition for fulfilling award requirements and for their commitment to the environment. Pousada de Mong-Há has also been appreciated for fulfilling award requirements.

    Awardees had distinctive benefits according to their own characteristics after focusing on several areas as follows: employee encouragement on delivering green ideas; establishment of an environmental programme; continuous monitoring of environmental performance; encouragement of suppliers and clients in learning the importance of environmental management; etc. This award contributed for the enhancement of the environmental image of local hotel industry as well as brought positive results to sustainable development of tourism industry.

    The guest including Ms. Vong Man Hung, representative of Secretary for Transport and Public works and acting president of the Executive Committee of the Environment Council; Mr. Leong Man Io; acting president of the General Council of the Environment Council, Mr. Manuel Gonçalves Pires Júnior; deputy director of Macau Government Tourist Office, Mr. Chan Chi Kit; president of Macau Hoteliers and Innkeepers Association, Mr. Peter Tso; director of Macau Hotel Association, Mr. Lou Kai Cheong; deputy vice-president of Macau Hotel employees Association, Mr. Victor Manuel Kuan; vice-president of Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, Dr. Lee Shek fan; deputy vice-president of Hong Kong Productivity Council; and the representatives of the hotels.

    The 2008 Green Hotel was announced during the ceremony. Establishments operating in Macao are entitled to apply for the environmental award, such as: 5 stars or 4 stars Hotel; 4 stars Apartment Hotel; 5 stars or 4 stars Tourist Complex; 3 stars or 2 stars Hotel; 3 stars Apartment Hotel; 3 stars or 2 stars Pension. For assessment purposes, establishments will be allocated to one of the two categories.

    The assessment process will comprise 3 phases, which will include Desktop Assessment, Field Assessment, and Award Confirmation as first, second and third phase, respectively. Results of assessments will be submitted to a panel in order to confirm selected awardees.All participating establishments that fulfill requirements will be awarded with a Green Hotel certificate valid for 3 years.

    For applying for Macao Green Hotel Award, establishments are required to fill in an application form, which is provided at Environment Council's Website, and then send it to Environment Council either by email or by fax, before 20^th June 2008.
