Press Release The environmental training programme for teachers on how to promote environmental education at schools, organized by the Environment Council and Education and Youth Affairs Bureau came to an end on 10th July. This programme commenced on 30th June and is held on an annual basis. The training programme aimed principally at facilitating teachers the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and strengthen their capability on environmental promotion and education at schools. This year, 49 teachers from different schools and nurseries attended the programme.
Various topics were covered in the programme, which included: the state of environment in Macao, promotion and environmental education actions carried out by the Environment Council, environmental management and experiences at some schools, waste separation and recovery programme, energy conservation programme, environmental action programme for children at school, soilless cultivation, water sources and the problem of water salinity in Macao. Essentially, the environmental programme along these days sought to amplify teachers' information and knowledge so as to enable them to find the best way of promoting environmental education at schools, implement an environmental management and reinforce environmental education amongst students.
This programme was conducted by the member of the General Council of the Environment Council, Mr. Vong Chau Son; one staff of the Environment Council; an experienced instructors from the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau; Office for the Development of the Energy Sector, Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center; Institute for Tourism Studies; University of Macau; and Choi Nong Chi Tai School. Study visits were also held so that teachers got a real picture of the topics covered along the programme, thus facilitating comprehension.
The Environment Council hopes this programme has provided attendants further and better knowledge on environmental matters and enabled them to promote a more suitable environmental management at schools as well as increased pupils' environmental awareness and willingness to participate in this great task of protecting the environment. According to the feedbacks of the attendees at the end of the programme, the main objective was accomplished.
