Macao Green Hotel Award is a consolidation step to recognize an ongoing environmental effort carried out by local hotel industry. This event is organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau with the collaboration of Macao Government Tourist Office, supported by Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association, Macau Hotel Association, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, Macau Hotel Employees Association, and benefited from consultancy services from Hong Kong Productivity Council. This award is designed to leverage the importance of environmental management within the sector, and honour hotel establishments that have committed to environmental management.
In light of a vigorous expansion of the tourism industry in Macao, the demand for hotel services has been following this trend coherently. This industry is gradually becoming an epicentre of attention as to environmental expectations; in particular by customers and Macao community, whom have been awakening to the topic, therefore it makes business sense for the lodging industry to adopt the Green Hotel model in its daily operation as it does not only save operational cost through resource conservation, but also further improves customer and Macao community's satisfaction, which translates into a win-win situation for the industry and environment of Macao Special Administrative Region.
This year award ceremony is held on the World Environment Day (5th June), which is expected to incentive the hotel industry as well as the whole society to take actions together to protect the earth, thus echoing Untied Nations' objective to establish the World Environment Day.
