 The Macao Green Hotel Award Scheme started in 2007 and is organized by the Environment Council with the collaboration of Macao Government Tourist Office, is supported by Macau Hoteliers & Innkeepers Association, Macau Hotel Association, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, Macau Hotel Employees Association. This award is designed to demonstrate the importance of environmental management, and honour hotels that have committed to environmental management.
Aim:
- This Award Design Contest aims a fresh design of an environmental friendly award, which might be used for awarding Green Hotel winners at Green Hotel Award ceremony.
- The concept design of this award must convey an environmental friendly message as to the materials and shape/design utilized in it, thus avoiding heavily, unaesthetic and unfriendly concepts to the environment.
- There must be consistency between the underlying environmental message of Green Hotel Award and the award presented to award winners, in other words it would not make any sense to present an award which is made of unrecyclable and unfriendly materials to our environment.
Application requirements:
- All Macao ID citizens are entitled to participate in this contest.
- The contest comprises 2 phases:
1st phase - conceptual design submission
2nd phase - prototype submission
(only eligible participants at 1st phase, are entitled to participate in the 2nd phase)
- Participants may submit a maximum of 3 works.
- Each work must correspond to a single participant only.
- All works submitted should be the first original design.
Requirements and work format:
- A full written explanation of the conceptual design and description of environmental materials shall be attached to the 3-D illustration of the conceptual design upon submission for the first phase.
- A physical prototype of the award shall be presented to the Environment Council by eligible participants for the second phase in order to fully visualize the conceptual design. There should be no discrepancies between the prototype and conceptual design.
- The maximum size of the award should not be bigger than: 50 cm (width) x 50 cm (length) x 30 cm (depth).
- The participant shall provide an estimate for award production costs of 5 to 10 units, mentioning both unit cost and total cost.
- All works shall be made of biodegradable or recyclable materials; recycled materials may form it; or materials with certification mentioning that their origin respects the environment, or are produced in such a way that have no harmful impact on the environment.
- More than one material may be used on the award.
- Overall design must convey an environmental friendly message.
- It may take the form of any creative form that is suitable for this event, as well as it can be easily shown by hotel winners to the public inside their premises.
- There must be space on the award for a text in 3 languages (Chinese, Portuguese, and English), date, organizing entities and supporting organizations logotypes, and Green Hotel logotype. Refer to both content and logotypes that must be shown on the award, which are attached to this regulation.
- Conceptual design and prototype submitted must not contain participant's name or other identifying marks except the ones permitted by the organizer, under penalty of cancellation of the application.
Other requirements:
- The winners of the 1st phase will be eligible for the 2nd phase and shall submit all digital files of the conceptual design to the Environment Council, e.g. Adobe pdf, ai, or any other needed format.
- Winner designers shall support, accompany and follow the whole award production process whenever solicited by the Environment Council in the future as well as provide all necessary digital files for award production.
- Environment Council will own the copyrights of the winning designs.
- All participants shall take copyright responsibility for the work(s) submitted.
- All submitted works shall not be returned.
- All participants shall agree with terms of the present regulation, otherwise the organizing committee reserves the right to cancel the participation of any contestant.
Jury:
- Representatives of the Environment Council, Macao Designers' Association and other invited professionals constitute the jury.
- All decision rights are reserved to the jury with regard to final result, consequently complaints will not be accepted.
Evaluation Criteria:
- Concept Design (40%)
- Utilized Materials (30%)
- Practicability (cost and production feasibility) (30%)
Contest Benefits:
 It will become an added value to the designer's curriculum as to design achievement, as there will be a possibility for the award to be systematically produced on following years.
Prizes:
- 1st prize - MOP$ 18,000.00
- 2nd prize - MOP$ 14,000.00
- 3rd prize - MOP$ 10,000.00
Organizer retains the rights not to present awards if entries do not comply with the requirements.
Important submission dates:
- 1st phase: application and conceptual design submission deadline: 13th February 2009 (within office hours).
- 2nd phase : eligible participants shall submit a prototype: before 31st March 2009 (within office hours).

Results announcement:Disclosure of contest winner will be unveiled and communicated either at the Environment Council website (http://www.ambiente.gov.mo), by email or phone.
Remarks:The organizing committee reserves the right to modify the terms of the present regulation.
