Water Conservation Campaign goes on

     The workgroup formed by the coordinator of the Promotional Team for Water Conservation, Ms. Vong Man Hung; the coordinator, Ms. Wong Soi Man; two representatives of the Salinity Response Task Force; the member of the Administrative Council of Civic And Municipal Affairs Bureau, Mr. Lo Veng Tak; and the deputy general manager of The Macao Water Supply Co. Ltd, Mr. Chu Wai Man visited a school, a residence and an hotel on 27^th November under the scope of the water conservation campaign.

     The "Water Conservation Week", which was organized by both entities mentioned above, started a series of activities on 24^th November aiming at alerting population on the issue of water scarcity.

     Firstly, at the kindergarten of Pui Ching middle school, the group addressed students by delivering a presentation on the value of water resources, daily measures for conserving water, and opinion exchange with staff on methods of conserving water, after welcoming the principle, Mr. Kou Kam Fai and delivering posters on water conservation.

     Secondly, at Mr. Chan's house, the group verified its water saving practices and made the following suggestion: place a bottle of 550 ml filled with water inside toilet water flush tank. If every family did the same (a bottle of 550 ml for a family with 3 individuals and five-time use of toilet) it would save up to 3,000 liters of water yearly, likewise 177,300 families in Macao would save 531,900 m³ of water, that is equivalent to Seac Pai Van reservoir or a three-day consumption of water across Macao. For the purpose of water saving, residents may also adjust the level of water in the toilet water flush.

     Finally, the group visited a hotel in NAPE, where it observed equipments on water conservation and listened to one of the managers on measures taken for water conservation.

     For the government of Macao Special Administrative Regions, all actions towards the conservation of water resources are fundamental, as well as promotional actions on the need for water conservation. Many works are already underway in diverse fields aiming at reinforcing local awareness on "Drinking water and thinking of its source" and encouraging population for an active participation in the construction of a society truly committed to the conservation of a vital resource - water.
